I feel like any comment I make on this will totally incriminate me to, like, potential employers or something, but I think that Hank is pretty much spot on with this.
I also think that nowadays, with the Internet, we feel that we have a right to have access to absolutely everything *quality* in the world. (At least when it comes to entertainment. Now if only we could somehow pirate our way to quality healthcare…) I know that I feel like I’m missing out when there’s been a new episode of some British TV show out for weeks and I haven’t seen it yet. Maybe it’s just because everything just seems better when it comes from across the ocean. Or maybe, Hank, you’re right when you say that we are making a statement about who we are and what we choose. By watching Sherlock and Doctor Who, we are saying we are not satisfied with being identified with mainstream American culture, and we hope that by watching the same TV shows that the Brits watch, maybe we don’t think the same way as those other lazy Americans who will gladly consume whatever is put within arm’s reach.
…or maybe British guys are just much more attractive and we are all addicted to hearing their voices on a regular basis. Who knows? XD
